For a while now, I've liked the idea of having my own little corner of the internet which I can tinker around with every once in a while and show the things that I'm proud of in a way that's more flexible than any of the social media platforms would allow. In the process of getting this all set up, I figured that I might as well further develop a skill in the process.
While I've had a fair bit of experience with Vue & Angular in the past, my experience with React has always been fairly light, just doing odd bits in it here and there, so this was my chance to change that. I've struggled a fair bit with finding what layout of the site works well for me and gone through various iterations, in the end I've found that this fairly simple layout of stuff I've been doing and stuff I like works well and hopefully gives a somewhat accurate representation of who I am as a person.
I'm pretty happy with the House Sitting part of the site. I don't think I'm a natural writer, but I enjoyed writing my story of that year from my life. I want to do something similar for the Vancouver to New York cycling trip I did back in 2016, and the plus side of that one is that I had people encouraging me to take photos on that one that I did for the house sitting.
I've also enjoyed playing around with the Shimi portion of the website. The ear trainer is something I use on a regular basis, though the code playground and lab DEFINITELY need more work.
For years now I've also been a little obsessed with trying to work around my default for just slumping into existence mode, not really doing anything productive, despite my best wishes to do so. As such, I've ended up developing various systems over the years to help with organising my life. I've learned a lot about what works vs what doesn't, and this has culminated in Notu, my pièce de résistance! A single app which can manage my routines, contacts, tasks, exercise, calendar, meal planning and more. All this in a very flexible way where different parts of the app can easily intermingle with each other. It's kind of funny just how many of the tasks I add within it are themselves about ways I can improve the app, but it's something I genuinely view as a hobby rather than any kind of chore to get through.
So yeah, that's my website, hope you enjoy it, and fingers crossed it keeps getting better with more stuff added to it.
